Reports say the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed Tiwa Savage was arrested on Saturday, February 15, 2014 after allegedly disobeying traffic rules in Lagos.
Initial reports have it that the star Pop singer allegedly assaulted a Policeman on Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island who had flagged her down for flouting traffic rules right in front of Eko Hotels and Suites. Tiwa allegedly alighted from her vehicle, approached the Policeman and embarrassed him by removing his cap.
There are unconfirmed reports the incident happened hours after the Pop singer performed at Big Valentine Rave Party at the Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites on Friday February 14.
It is unclear if Tiwa was behind the wheels and whether there were other passengers in the car.
Reports say Tiwa was arrested by the Policemen and taken to the Victoria Island Police Division, Lagos for assaulting and ultimately embarrassing a man of the force. But on Saturday, Tiwa performed at Darey’s ‘Love Like a Movie 2‘ concert.
A Policeman confirmed the incident and arrest to Punch Newspapers;
‘Tiwa Savage refused to stop at a traffic light around Adetokunbo Ademola Street near Eko Hotel and Suites. When we attempted to accost her, she refused to park her car as instructed by the policemen.
Since there was a traffic snarl at the time, a policeman followed her car and insisted that she must stop. After a while, she stopped and started raining abuses on all of us so, we took her to the station.
On getting to the station, a senior officer advised her to apologise because she was wrong and there were even eyewitnesses at the scene who could testify against her if the matter was taken to court. She apologised and was released immediately‘.
Visiting the Victoria Island Police Division, our reporter was referred to the office of the Police Public Relations. NET’s phone calls to Ngozi Braide, the Police Public Relations Officer were not answered neither was a text sent replied.
Tiwa Savage’s manager Tunji ‘Tee-Billz‘ Balogun when reached denied the incident took place, describing the report as a joke. ‘Joke. Lol….Tiwa had 5 shows yesterday‘, Tee-Billz responded to our text sent to him on Saturday morning.
Mavin Records publicist Terfa Tilley-Gyado has not picked up our phone calls. Punchng however reports that the Mavin publicist confirmed the news, saying a statement will be released in due time.
